The DISCIPLE Bible Study programs are designed to develop strong Christian leaders through the in-depth study of Scripture. Through DISCIPLE, persons are strengthened in their faith and guided into service and ministry. In 2003-2004 St. John's is offering two of the four Disciple studies:

  • Becoming Disciples through Bible Study,
  • Remember Who You Are

BECOMING DISCIPLES THROUGH BIBLE STUDY. A 34-week study that moves through the biblical story from Creation to the New Jerusalem. This study helps develop biblically nourished persons committed to live as disciples.

REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE
A 32-week study of The Prophets and The Letters of Paul available to adult and youth who are graduates of DISCIPLE: BECOMING DISCIPLES THROUGH BIBLE STUDY. It calls clergy and laity to disciplined Bible study that will result in a ministering community nourished by Scripture.

Alpha

What is Christianity all about? What happens when we die? How do we deal with guilt? What relevance does Jesus have for our lives?

If you would like to explore questions like these in a comfortable setting, Alpha might be for you. The Alpha course is a 15 session practical exploration of the Christian faith which has seen extraordinary success at stimulating faith among those who are not churchgoers, and also given a new dynamism to many existing Christians.

We've saved you a seat!

The format of the course is that after a family-style supper and perhaps a worship song, a talk is presented by video and then a small group discussion follows.

Our next Alpha course will begin in January 2004.

FaithQuest: A Journey Toward Congregational Transformation is divided into 18 sessions. An orientation and four main sections separate the study into

  • A New Way of Thinking About Jesus Christ (the Gospel of Luke)
  • A New Way of Thinking About the Church (the Book of Acts)
  • A New Way of Thinking About the World (the Epistle to the Ephesians)
  • A New Way of Thinking About the Christian Life (the sermons and writings of John Wesley.)

Completion of the Bible study is not the end of the process, but the beginning of a new way of thinking, leading and living as Christian disciples. It is the launching pad for a lifelong journey of personal and congregational transformation.
